#DECELERATE WITH A LITTLE BRAKE AND STOP BACKFIRE FULL#
I am a bit chipped off actually because surely a car should go for a dyno and provided it isn't running at it's full potential, I should get it back running better than when it went in?!?!!? The dude said to me that it was just timing and a few things that he adjusted, he was a bit vague in all honesty. Got the car back yesturday, it isn't stumbling down low but the intermittent miss at idle still crops up every now and then, and according to my bum dyno there is a drop in total power. M3THANOL wrote:Car booked in for a dyno tomorrow at Premier Performance, thanks guys, will let you know what the outcome is Sorry, I know I have given a number of options but maybe you guys might be able to advise me as to what I need to do to test these various components so that I can hopefully either find the problem or narrow down the possibilities. #4) Could it be the dizzy that is now getting tired? The idle hunt seems to have started since I put the A-cam in so maybe it is just that. #3) Could this be bad spark plugs or leads? I have noticed that when the car is idling every now and then at random intervals it seems to have a misfire, and the idle seems to hunt (only a very small amount +-100 to 200rpm). I haven't touched that yet as I don't want to simply start replacing parts left, right & center to try and solve the problem. #2) A faulty mechanical fuel pump, as I suspected in the beginning. It is one of those WAG replacement carbs that was installed in November last year. I don't understand how this can change because I have made no adjustments to the carb. #1) The accelerator pump on the carb is either giving too much fuel or too little.

This brings me to a couple of possibilities:

I did the necessary tests to see if it was the brake booster that had a leak and according to the haynes manual the tests show that there isn't an issue there. I checked over the weekend for vacuum leaks and that turned up negative. Up until 3500rpm and then the power comes in. Then in the last week I have noticed that is hesitates/ stumbles under acceleration from standstill and feels as if it is struggling a bit to accelerate Since the Gymkhana day I have noticed that my car hasn't been feeling as great as it did prior to that. I also have read that this is not always a sign that there is a problem as many cars that are running 100% pop/backfire on over-run. Now I know that over retarded timing can do this but I have the timing set right as far as I know. It now pop's/ backfires if I decelerate in-gear. I got the car running again last night but it isn't running right. I had to replace a lifter that decided to die on saturday.

So as you know I have had issues with my Golf lately.
